چکیده
A novel minimal motif (Motif2) for left-handed G-quadruplex (LHG4) formation has been discovered, highlighting the role of split guanines and single thymine loops in promoting LHG4 structures.

Structure of a left-handed DNA G-quadruplex.
Aside from the well-known double helix, DNA can also adopt an alternative four-stranded structure known as G-quadruplex. Implications of such a structure in cellular processes, as well as its therapeutic and diagnostic applications, have been reported. The G-quadruplex structure is highly polymorphic, but so far, only right-handed helical forms have been observed. Here we present the NMR soluti...
متن کاملA novel G-quadruplex motif in the Human MET promoter region
It is known that the guanine-rich strands in proto-oncogene promoters can fold into G-quadruplex structures to regulate gene expression. An intramolecular parallel G-quadruplex has been identified in MET promoter. It acts as a repressor in regulating MET expression. However, the full guanine-rich region in MET promoter forms a hybrid parallel/antiparallel G-quadruplex structure under physiologi...
متن کاملA Toolbox for Predicting G-Quadruplex Formation and Stability
G-quadruplexes are four stranded nucleic acid structures formed around a core of guanines, arranged in squares with mutual hydrogen bonding. Many of these structures are highly thermally stable, especially in the presence of monovalent cations, such as those found under physiological conditions. Understanding of their physiological roles is expanding rapidly, and they have been implicated in re...
متن کاملFormation of the G-quadruplex and i-motif structures in retinoblastoma susceptibility genes (Rb)
The formation of G-quadruplex and i-motif structures in the 5' end of the retinoblastoma (Rb) gene was examined using chemical modifications, circular dichroism (CD) and fluorescence spectroscopy. It was found that substitutions of 8-methylguanine at positions that show syn conformations in antiparallel G-quadruplexes stabilize the structure in the G-rich strand. The complementary C-rich 18mer ...
متن کاملNovel Electromagnetic Radiation in Left - Handed Materials
In this thesis, Cerenkov radiation of a moving charged particle inside a Left-Handed material (LHM) is studied through both theory and numerical simulations. A LHM is a material whose permittivity and permeability have negative real parts. In the analysis of this thesis, the general theory of Cerenkov radiation was first studied for the unbounded regions filled with LHM. The physical meanings o...
